Modify Clips with the Assistant
The Assistant is a chat beside the episode editor. It reviews your clips and your script, finds what went wrong in a clip, and modifies the scene to fix it: it proposes the changes and offers to remake the clip.
It changes nothing in your project until you apply its suggestion, and generates nothing until you click Generate. It also answers questions about your story, and edits scenes, characters and locations when you ask.
Diagnose and fix a clip
- Open the episode. On a large screen the Assistant opens beside it; otherwise click Assistant in the top bar. Scroll to the scene, or name it in your message.
- Say what's wrong in a sentence, such as "In Scene 3, her coat turns blue halfway through", or ask it to check the clip against the script.
- The Assistant watches the clip, all of it or the stretch you point to, and can tell which shot a moment belongs to. It compares what it sees with what the clip was made from: each shot's action, camera, blocking and background, the looks the characters wear, the location, and the scene's background plates and continuity references, images included. For a clip that failed, it checks why.
- It explains what went wrong and proposes the fix as cards. A change to a shot, the scene, a look, a character or a location takes effect when you click Apply. When an image is at fault, a card offers a new image of the look, the location or the background plate.
- It then offers a clip card that remakes the scene, listing what it will make and its price. Clips are made from the saved script, so the card's Generate waits until you've applied the changes it follows; until then the card says "Apply the change above first".
- Click Generate. The card shows the clip's progress, then the new clip, which also appears in the scene's Video card. You can ask the Assistant to check the new clip too.
Open the Assistant
- Assistant is in the top bar of the episode editor and of each scene's Scene Assets page. On a phone, the button shows only its icon.
- The chat opens on the right, beside the editor; on a smaller screen it covers the page. On a large screen it opens by itself each time you open one of your episodes. It stays open as you move between the editor and a scene's assets page. Click Assistant again, or the ×, to close it; it stays closed while you work on that episode, and opens again when you next open an episode or reload the page.
- Sign in to use it. It works on your own projects, including your copy of the demo project.
Ask about your story
Ask anything about your project: what happens in a scene, who appears where, or how a character comes across. The Assistant reads the story, the episodes, each scene's shots, the characters and their looks, and the locations and their set layouts. It can also watch a scene's clip, look at the project's images, find every scene a character, location or prop appears in, and check on clips and images being generated.
- The Looking at: line above the message box names the scene and shots on screen. A message that names no scene is about those; name a scene or an episode to ask about another.
- A new conversation suggests two messages to start from. Clicking one puts it in the box, ready to edit or send.
- While it works, lines such as "Reading Scene 3" show what it's reading.
Changes come as cards
When you ask for a change, the Assistant proposes it as a card in the chat, with each change shown before and after. Your project stays as it is until you decide:
- Apply makes the change, and Dismiss drops the card.
- Revert, on an applied card, undoes it. You can also ask the Assistant to undo a change you applied in the same conversation.
- Several cards can wait side by side. Ask for an adjustment and a new card replaces the old one.
- A card says "Not applied" when what it changes was edited after it was made. Ask again for a fresh one.
In the episode that's open, it can change:
- a scene's shots: their action, dialogue, camera, blocking and background. It can also add, remove, reorder, merge and split shots;
- a scene's time of day, characters, purpose and location, including a new location it proposes, whose card you apply first;
- the episode's list of scenes: splitting, merging, adding, removing and reordering them. Each scene keeps its clip until you remake it, and the Assistant tells you which clips no longer match;
- characters and their looks, a change that reaches every scene they're in;
- locations and their set layouts, a change that reaches every scene set there.
It can't rename characters, looks, locations or props.
Cards that generate make a scene's clip, background plates, a look's image or a location's image. Each lists what it will make and its price, and nothing is made until you click Generate. A clip card uses the project's resolution unless you ask for another; then its Generate also sets the project's resolution to that one.
Conversations
- Past conversations, the clock icon at the top of the chat, lists the project's earlier conversations, each titled with its first message.
- New conversation, the +, starts a fresh one.
- While it answers, the send button turns into a stop button, which ends the reply.
- It answers one message at a time.
What it costs
- Your account comes with Free Assistant Credits for the Assistant's messages. The Billing page shows how much of them you've used. They don't renew.
- After that, each message is charged from your balance for the work it does, watching clips included. There's no price before you send: sending sets aside enough credits for the longest possible reply, and what it doesn't use goes back.
- Clips and images made from a card cost the price on the card, charged to your balance like any other generation. Free Assistant Credits don't cover them.
See Credits and billing for buying credits.
